Web & Internet Jargon Explained
For the uninitiated the Internet can seem like a big world of long words and acronyms that they're nowhere near to understanding. This can result in things like customers ordering the wrong web hosting or simply washing their hands at the thought of learning more.
Below we've compiled our guide to some of the most common terms you'll hear on the web.
The Internet
A global system of interconnected computer networks.
DNS
Domain Name System
Website
A collection of documents published via the Internet and accessible via a web browser. Web pages are usually written in code called HTML and characterised by the use of hypertext allowing viewers the ability to easily navigate between pages.
World Wide Web (WWW)
A collection of websites accessible via the Internet.

Mac
Web Browser
A piece of computer software that interprets the HTML code of websites and displays the results for users. The most common web browser is Microsoft's Intenet Explorer which comes pre-installed on all Windows PCs. There are alternatives to Internet Explorer with the most popular being the Open Source (free to download) Mozilla Firefox.
